My Story

My name is Francisco Sebastian NAVARRO OLIVA. I’m a PhD student in the Roberval Laboratory at the Université de Technologie de Compiègne. My research focuses on the development of nanocomposites composed of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and iron oxide nanoparticles. These nanocomposites exhibit unique properties that make them promising candidates for various applications. To fabricate these materials, I employ the electrospinning technique, which allows for the production of nanofibers with a high surface-to-volume ratio.

Characterizing the nanocomposites is a crucial aspect of my research. Given the nanoscale nature of the materials, microscopy techniques such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are utilized. These techniques enable us to visualize the morphology and dispersion of the nanoparticles within the PVDF matrix, providing insights into the overall structure of the nanocomposites.

Additionally, X-ray diffraction (XRD) is employed to analyze the crystalline structure of the nanocomposites. By studying the diffraction patterns, we can determine the crystallinity and identify specific phases present in the material, enhancing our understanding of its properties.

The ultimate goal of my research is to apply these PVDF-based nanocomposites to the design and development of current sensors. The unique combination of PVDF's piezoelectric properties and the magnetic properties of the iron oxide nanoparticles opens up new possibilities for the creation of flexible and lightweight sensors capable of accurately detecting and measuring electrical currents.

This research project is generously funded by LABEX MS2T, Région Hauts-de-France, and NORMAFIN.
